ShieldBACKUPS Storage: Retention & Limits
ShieldBACKUPS uses smart retention and off-site storage to ensure efficient use of backup space. A fair use policy helps avoid overloading the system, and you will be notified if your backups are paused due to excessive size.
Here’s how it works:
Backup Retention Policy
Backups are kept based on a fixed retention schedule to balance data availability and storage usage:
- All backups are retained for the most recent 7 days.
- Weekly backups are stored going back 12 weeks (approximately 3 months).
This policy ensures you have access to recent and longer-term backups.
Storage Location & Security
All backups are stored offsite on Shield Security’s secure cloud infrastructure, separate from your website’s server. This means:
- Backups are not stored in your local /wp-content/ directory.
- You access backups only through your Shield Security PRO account.
- It is highly recommended to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Shield Security account for added security.
Backup Size & Limits
Backups include your site’s files and database but are subject to storage limits to ensure performance and reliability.
- ShieldBACKUPS uses efficient storage and transfer protocols to keep backups manageable.
- There is no need to configure external cloud or storage services; everything is handled securely within Shield Security’s infrastructure.
- On average, all sites on your account should be no larger than 10GB. This should comfortably cover 99.9% of sites, but if your sites are extraordinarily large, please contact us to discuss this further.
Managing Your Backup Storage
You don’t have to manually delete backups; the retention policy automatically removes older backups beyond the set retention period.
If you want to download your latest backup files, you can request a ZIP download via the Shield Security PRO interface and receive an email with a link once ready.
Summary
ShieldBACKUPS’ retention and storage policies provide a secure, automated, and efficient way to manage your backups. By storing data offsite and enforcing clear retention limits, ShieldBACKUPS ensures your backups are safe, accessible, and do not overload your storage.
