How ShieldBACKUPS Secures Your WordPress Backup Data
At Shield Security, we prioritise the security and privacy of your backup data. ShieldBACKUPS is designed with strong, multi-layered security measures to ensure your backups are protected at every stage.
Backup Security
ShieldBACKUPS architecture is lightweight, fast, and fully managed by the plugin itself.
Your backups are stored off-site on our own dedicated data storage servers, and are not connected to either your website, or ours. This means
- No backups are sent to any external server. This ensures full control and privacy of your backup data.
- Even if your website is compromised, your backups remain secure.
- Shield never has access to the contents of your backup files.
Access to these backups is exclusively through your Shield Security PRO account.

(We also strongly recommend enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account for improved security).
Encryption and Secure Data Transfer
ShieldBACKUPS employs AES-256 encryption to secure your backup data both during transfer and while at rest. All data transfers occur over secure SSL/TLS connections, ensuring data integrity and protection against interception.
Please note that your website must have a valid TLS (SSL) certificate to perform backups. Please check all ShieldBACKUPS requirements here.
Access Control and Notifications
Backup management is handled exclusively through your Shield Security PRO account. You can initiate on-demand (manual) backups and will receive notifications upon their completion. Additionally, weekly summary emails provide an overview of your sites’ backup statuses, keeping you informed about your backup health.
Compliance with Data Protection Regulations
ShieldBACKUPS is designed to comply with major data protection regulations, including GDPR and HIPAA. By storing your backups securely and implementing strict access controls, we help ensure your data handling practices meet legal requirements for data protection and privacy.
